Succeeding Through Struggle: Building Better Habits

In today’s podcast episode, I start off by emphasizing the importance of recognizing that struggle doesn’t equate to failure. In fact, when you find yourself facing challenges and pushing through difficulties, that’s a sign of growth and progress. Remember, it’s during these tough moments that you’re truly succeeding.

I share a personal example involving my son, who’s starting a new school year. He’s been struggling to get back into the rhythm of things, but I remind him that his struggles signify his progress. I encourage him to embrace the challenges and see them as stepping stones toward improvement.

Whether you use technology like fitness trackers or stick to a simple pencil and paper approach, monitoring your actions helps you stay on track. For instance, if your goal is a daily 20-minute walk, ticking it off each day in a notebook will reinforce the habit over time.

Overcoming challenges often involves adjusting your routine to accommodate new habits. Waking up a bit earlier to fit in that workout or walk might be tough initially, but it’s in these moments of discomfort that you’re truly making progress. When you encounter difficulties, remind yourself that you’re succeeding by pushing through.

Having an accountability system in place can significantly aid in habit formation. Joining an accountability group, whether online or in-person, can be incredibly motivating. Sharing your achievements and setbacks with others keeps you engaged and responsible. I highlight the value of in-person accountability groups since they foster a sense of community and mutual support.

Finally, I circle back to the notion that struggle is a sign of success. Overcoming old habits and replacing them with new ones is no easy feat. It requires patience, dedication, and a willingness to embrace the challenges. If you find yourself facing difficulties, remember that you’re on the right path.
