Building Healthy Habits: Modeling Good Behavior for Kids

In this episode I talk about healthy habits that you can adopt as a parent and model for your kids. It’s essential to understand that everything you do sets an example for your children. Habits play a significant role in achieving our goals. Goals are abstract, but systems, which are a series of habits, help us reach those goals.

When I started my journey to lose weight and get in shape, it was because I felt terrible. I had brain fog, had difficulty playing with my kids, and even tying my shoes became a struggle. It was all due to the accumulation of bad habits over time. That’s why it’s vital to focus on improving your health and fitness day after day.

Some people think that intense workouts and constant motivation are the keys to success. While they can help for a while, habits eventually take over. To break old habits, it’s best to develop new ones. That’s why I recommend building a habit of exercise. Start with a half-hour workout every day. Consistency is key. Even if you occasionally skip a session, get back on track the next day.

You don’t need to spend hours working out. It can be as simple as a 10-minute walk or a 20-minute jog. I’m a firm believer in home gym workouts. They’re easy, exciting, and don’t require much equipment. Focus on essential movements like pulling, pushing, squats, and core work. Over time, you can maximize the efficiency of your workouts, such as through high-intensity interval training (HIIT).

Incorporating your kids into your physical activities is essential. Play with them, take them to parks, and make it a habit. Building a support network is also helpful. Unfortunately, sometimes friends and family can be the biggest obstacles to our success. But if you find supportive people, embrace them.

To establish a habit, set a specific time and stick to it. For example, commit to a workout every morning at 7 a.m. Follow through consistently, and it will become automatic. As your habits solidify, expand your activities throughout the day, playing and having fun with your kids. You can even invite friends to join you, providing encouragement and camaraderie.

Consistency is crucial in achieving your health and fitness goals. Remember, habits are the key to success. If you found this helpful, please like, share, and subscribe.
